James J. Corbett was born on September 1, 1866 in San Francisco, California. He won the World Heavyweight Title from John L. Sullivan on September 7, 1892. He retired after losing to Jim Jeffries on August 14, 1903 with a final record of 11-4-2 with 2 no contests and 7 KO's. Offered here is an original, two sided, advertising supplement poster of James J. Corbett, as champion, sponsoring the book PORTRAIT GALLERY OF PUGILISTS OF AMERICA by Billy Edwards. This was issued as a supplement to the New York Recorder on September 16, 1894.
This is an exceptionally rare, two sided, paper supplement poster which pictures Corbett in fight pose. Bold print and bold, clear image of Corbett. Has several tears which are reinforced on the reverse side by clear tape. Small corner clip at upper right. Has a center fold. Minor edge wear. 11" x 14 1/2." The only example we have seen.
