HISTORY: Professor John Duffy was a prominent boxing referee who worked fights largely during the 1890's. Duffy was the referee for the Sullivan-Corbett fight as well as fights between George-Dixon-Jack Skelly, Billy Myer-Jack McAuliffe, Robert Fitzsimmons-Peter Maher, Nonpareil Jack Dempsey-Billy McCarthy, Robert Fitzsimmons-Jim Hall, Robert Fitzsimmons-Dan Creedon and the longest fight on record Texas Jack Burke-Andy Bowen.

Offered here is an original Olympic Club check paid to John Duffy and signed on the back by him. 

FULL DESCRIPTION: This is an original Olympic Club check payable to John Duffy for $25.00, dated 1/3/1890 and signed on the back in ink, " John Duffy." Some foxing from aging, otherwise clean. Has two folds. Minor corner wear. Has a stamp that penetrates the check, not affecting the signature. 3" x 8 1/4." Exceptionally rare signature of this prominent referee of the Sullivan-Corbett fight.
