Jack Dempsey was born on June 24, 1895 in Manassa, Colorado. He defeated Jess Willard on July 4, 1919 to win the World Heavyweight Title and held the title until September 23, 1926 when he lost to Gene Tunney. In his career Dempsey fought and defeated Georges Carpentier, Luis Firpo, Tommy Gibbons and Jack Sharkey. Dempsey announced his retirement in February of 1928 with a final record of 64-6-9 with 49 KO's. Offered here is a hand colored, large format photograph of Jack Dempsey in full fight pose dating to the 1920's which he has signed and inscribed.
This is a large format, colorized photo by the notable National Studios which has their stamp in the lower left corner. Mounted on board. It is signed and inscribed in the lower right corner to the owner of Stillman's Gym, "To Lou Stillman from Jack Dempsey Jan. 6-25." The photo is in nice condition with no tears or craese. Wear at edges and corners. Image is bold and color is sharp. The inscription and signature blend into dark portion of photo, but still readable. Extremely rare, especially in this size. 20" x 29 1/2."
