On February 16, 1963 in Manila, Philippines world super featherweight champion Flash Elorde defended his title against Johnny Bizzarro. Elorde prevailed winning a unanimous 15 round decision. "Flash Elorde of the Philippines stood back, picked challenger Johnny Bizzarro to pieces Saturday night and retained his world junior lightweight title on a unanimous 15 round decision before 40,000 fans at outdoor Rizal Stadium. There were no knockdowns, but the 28 year old Elorde frequently rocked the 24 year old challenger from Erie, Pa., and cut him about the left eye. Bizzarro's nose was bleeding too. Despite the sharp counter-punching of the elusive Filipino southpaw, Bizzarro pressed his attack throughout the fight and finished strong as Elorde coasted behind a big lead. Elorde used short rights to the midsection and sharp left hooks to the head to pile up his margin. The hooks did the most damage, but Bizzarro maintained his record of never having been knocked down or out." -Associated Press. Offered here is an original wire photo which depicts 6th round action.
