ARMSTRONG, HENRY-CEFERINO GARCIA II WIRE PHOTO (1940)

On March 1, 1940 at Gilmore Stadium in Los Angeles middleweights Henry Armstrong and Ceferino Garcia battled in the main event. At the end of ten rounds the fight was declared a draw. Billed as a World Middleweight Title fight it was recognized only by California. This was George Blake's last assignment as a referee, according to his obituary in the Dec. 21, 1952 New York Times. Offered here is an original wire photo showing the two fighters in action.
