On November 25, 1938 at Madison Square Garden in New York welterweight champion Henry Armstrong fought Ceferino Garcia in the main event. Armstrong prevailed over his tough foe winning a unanimous 15 round decision. Armstrong was able to swarm all over Garcia, for the majority of the bout, not giving Garcia time to get set an punch. Garcia was able to keep Armstrong at bay to some extent in the 1st, 3rd, 4th, and 6th round. In the 6th, Garcia hurt Armstrong with an overhand right, followed by several more right hands. Garcia appeared to be behind in the last couple rounds, and did catch Armstrong with another right hand in the 15th, that stunned him. Garcia finished the bout with cuts over both eyes, a cut on his left cheek, and badly swollen hands that he had hurt in the 3rd and 6th round. Armstrong's left eye was completely swollen shut in the 15th round. Odds: Armstrong 13-to-5 favorite. Attendance: 15,725. Gate: $79,931.
