Abe Attell is considered one of the most controversial champions in boxing history. Nicknamed, "The Little Champ," Attell won the World Featherweight Title defeating Johnny Regan on September 3, 1903. After losing it in 1904 he regained it defeating Jimmy Walsh on February 22, 1906. He held the title until 1912. Had victories over Frankie Neil, Harry Forbes, George Dixon, Johnny Kilbane, and Eddie Hanlon. Perhaps remembered best for his involvement in the 1919 "Black Sox" World Series fix. Presented here is a photographic calendar featuring Abe Attell.
This is a small calendar put out by the 44th Street Sporting Club and picturing Abe Attell. Attell is pictured bare chested and the photo has the original ribbon ties. The photo is 2" x 3". The calendar does not have the year or months (the months were torn off under the word calendar, but it is probably around 1913-1915. Attell is listed as former champion which puts it after 1912 when he lost his title. A small chip out of the upper left corner and the other cornars have tack holes. The photo and small calendar are affixed to a heavy cardboard mount which has the print shown Overall 3 1/4" x 6". Extremely rare, the only one we have seen.
