On July 4,1931 Max Baer met Paulino Uzcudun in a Heavyweight bout. Uzcudun would win the bout by decision in 20 rounds of boxing. This is the "first heavyweight bout of any importance in Reno since [Jack] Johnson defeated [James] Jeffries July 4, 1910." Some 18,000 people attended, "virtually equalling the normal population of the city." New York Times. Jack Dempsey served as the referee. Presented here is an original souvenir pin from this event.
This is an original souvenir pin with attached ribbon. The circular medal at top names the fighters, date and venue. The ribbon denotes Jack Dempsey as referee. Ribbon has a mild fold. The medal is clean as is the ribbon.Pin firmly attached to the back. No tears. Clean front and back. A rare souvenir pin and ribbon, the first we have seen. 2" x 5 1/2."
