Yama Bahama was born William Butler on February 16, 1933 in Bimini, Bahamas. He began his professional boxing career on July 20, 1954 with a loss to Bob Hoffman. Fighting as a middleweight Bahama developed into a significant contender and posted wins over Gil Turner, Kid Gavila, Joey Giambra and Joe Miceli. Despite his successes Bahama never got a title shot. He retired after a loss to Linnes Johnson on August 1, 1967 with a final record of 77-14-3. He passed away in the Bahamas on June 29, 2009. Offered here is a one page typed letter from Yamma Bahama which he has signed twice, once with his birth name and once with his ring name.
This is a one page typed letter to Bill Cayton of Big Fight, Inc in which he requests copies of some of his old fight films. Boldly signed in ink, "William Butler Yama Bahama." Includes pictures of Bahama which he enclosed with the letter. Has several creases. Clean. Minor edge wear. 8 1/2" x 11."
