HISTORY: 1957 was an eventful year for Carmen Basilio. On February 22nd Basilio successfully defended his World Welterweight Title against his old nemesis Johnny Saxton, stopping Saxton in the 2nd round. On May 16th Basilio moved up in weight and stopped Harold Jones in the 4th round. The culmination of a great year was on SEptember 23rd at Yankee Stadium when Basilio scored a major upset winning the World Middleweight Title from Suagr Ray Robinson by 15 round decision in The Ring Fight Of The Year.

Offered here is the prestigious Ring Magazine Fighter Of The Year Award given to Carmen Basilio as the top fighter in boxing for 1957 for his significant accomplishments in that year. 

FULL DESCRIPTION: This is the prestigious Ring Magazine Fighter Of The Year Award given to Carmen Basilio as the top fighter in boxing for 1957 for his significant accomplishments in that year. LOA from Carmen Basilio's nephew. The award comes in the original box by Popular Emblem & Medal Co. of New York, NY. This is a three tier award. The top tier is engraved, "THE RING FIGHTER OF THE YEAR AWARD 1957." The center tier, attached by small chains has two boxing gloves and is engraved, "PRESENTED TO CARMEN BASILIO." The third tier is an oval relief with raised fighters surrounded by 4 stones, none precious. The award is perfectly intact measuring 2 1/4" x 4 1/4." The box measues 3 1/2" x 6 1/2" x 1 1/4."  

The Ring Fighter Of The Year Award is one of the most prestigious given to a boxer, second only to the Ring championship belt.
