HISTORY: Marcel Cerdan was born July 22, 1916 in Algeria. He began his professional boxing career on November 4, 1934. He won the French and European Welterweight and Middleweight Titles. On September 21, 1948 he won the World Middleweight Title stopping then champion Tony Zale in 12 rounds at Jersey City, New Jersey. He lost the title to Jake LaMotta by 10 round knockout on June 16, 1949 in Detroit. A rematch was scheduled, but never took place. Cerdan was killed when the airplane transporting him for the rematch crashed in the Azores on October 27, 1949. A beloved French fighter. Presented here is an actual fight worn robe which was used by Marcel Cerdan Cerdan gifted the robe to Vikki and Jake LaMotta at the time of his fight with Jake LaMotta. From the collection of Vikki LaMotta. Comes with a letter of authenticity from the son of Vikki LaMotta.

FULL DESCRIPTION: This is a fight worn robe of Marcel Cerdan. The robe is blue satin with a blue satin sash. On the back in white, block letterin are the words, MARCEL CERdan, which have been hand stitched. Whitetrim around the opening and at each wrist and at the three pockets are the front. The interior is red cotton. The robe shows heavy use with light staining at each wrist and at the opening.. Perfectly intact. No size tag, but appears to be a medium. Comes with a letter of authenticity from the son of Vikki LaMotta. This robe remained in her collection from the time it was given to her and Jake LaMotta until her death and then passed on to her son. Exceptionally rare. The only other robe of this great champion to have surfaced is now in a museum in France.
