HISTORY: On November 26, 1952 at Chicago Stadium former heavyweight champion Ezzard Charles fought Jimmy Bivins. Charles won a unanimous 10 round decision.

Ex-champion Ezzard Charles slam-banged his way into another shot at the heavyweight title Wednesday night with a convincing 10 round triumph over Cleveland's Jimmy Bivins before a slim Chicago Stadium crowd of 2,799 and a vast television audience. Bivins hardly had a chance after he was knocked to one knee with a long right by Charles midway through the first round. Charles showed brilliantly throughout the battle. He displayed smashing punching with his right hand throughout and he used his left effectively to set Bivins up for his damaging rights to the head and body. Bivins fought a cute scrap. He moved constantly, never letting Charles get a clean shot at his head, and every time Charles came in with a dazing blow, Bivins moved in to a clinch which left Charles unable to swing." -United Press. Charles lost the 5th round due to a low blow. Although this bout had been signed for some time, it wasn't until November 14th it received the green light due to an NBA suspension incurred by Bivins. To protect the date, Bob Satterfield was substituted, but then had to withdraw due to a leg injury. With the suspension resolved by Bivins agreeing to meet an NBA approved opponent, the bout was back on. Jim Norris, president of the IBC, promised the winner of this bout a title shot against the winner of the Marciano-Walcott rematch. But it would not be until June of '54 that Charles would receive this opportunity. Purses - The gate only grossed $7,371.87 and Charles was to receive 30% of the net, which was $5,670.67 for a purse of $1,701.18. However, both fighters were also guaranteed $2,000 from TV, so Charles' total purse was $3,701.18. Bivins received 20% and with TV monies received $3,134.12.
