On March 12, 1974 at Empire Pool, Wembley in London, England John Conteh and Tom Bogs fought for the EBU European Light Heavyweight Title. Conteh stopped Bogs in the 6th round. "John Conteh of Britain got up from a 1st round knockdown and retained his European light heavyweight championship when Tom Bogs of Denmark was unable to answer the bell for the 7th round because of a cut Tuesday night. Bogs knocked Conteh down in the opening round with a looping right hand. Conteh struggled up, took an eight-count and lasted out the round although he still appeared dazed when the bell rang. Conteh then settled down and gradually took control with sharp jabs, solid left hooks and right uppercuts. A few seconds before the bell ended the 6th round, blood began spouting from above the left eye of Bogs." -Associated Press.
