On January 12, 1906 at the Pacific Athletic Club in Los Angeles former featherweight champion Young Corbett II fought Aurelio Herrera in the main event. Herrera knocked Corbett II out in the 5th round. "Corbett's exhibition was disappointing. He lacked the vim and dash that had won so many battles for him in the past, and his once forceful blows failed to inflict any damage on the well-conditioned body of his opponent." (Durango Democrat). Offered here is an original, first generation photograph taken by the notable Dana Studios depicting the two fighters in the ring squaring off before the fight began.
