Mike Cushing was born in Elizabethport, New Jersey on August 6, 1865. He fought at 126 pounds from 1883 until 1892. Cushing was wiry and quick and carried a stinging punch; He looked more like a school-teacher than a fighter but he could handle himself well. He was a brother of Tom Cushing, who did some fighting. Mike Cushing was the 126 Pound Champion of America during his career. During his career, Cushing defeated such men as Jack Hopper, Harry Bartlett, James Liddy, Dan O'Hara and Billy Ellingsworth and fought Jack McAuliffe. He passed away on September 1, 1892 at the young age of 27. Offered here is an original John Wood studio cabinet card of Mike Cushing.
This is an original cabinet card with photographer information at bottom. Pictures Cushing in fight pose at height of his career. Bold, clear image. Clean front and back. Slight rounding of corners. Not creased. 4 1/4" x 6 1/2."
