On December 15, 1995 World Lightweight Champion Oscar De La Hoya defended his title against Jesse James Leija at Madison Square Garden in New York. At stake was De La Hoya's WBO belt. The fight was dominated by Oscar from the outset and he stopped the former champion Leija in two rounds. Presented here is an official press pass to the bout used by Jerry Izenberg.Jerry Izenberg (born 1930) is a sports journalist with the Newark, New Jersey Star-Ledger. His career with the Star-Ledger began in 1951 while he was still a student at Rutgers University, Newark, but was interrupted for several years during which he served in the Korean War. Izenberg has covered many memorable sporting events and figures of the late Twentieth Century, including Sonny Werblin's ownership of the New York Jets, the boxing career of Muhammad Ali, and the Loma Prieta earthquake which interrupted the 1989 World Series. In 1997, Izenberg was inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame of New Jersey and in 2000 he won the Red Smith Award from the Associated Press Sports Editors.
This pass measures 4 inches by 6 inches.The pass is encased in plastic and still retains its original neck chain.The plastic cover has a large blue ink smudge mainly on the right side.
