HISTORY: This is a one page typed letter by the manager of Georges Carpentier, Francois Descamps, regarding the match between Carpentier and Dempsey. This is a formal challenge letter by Carpentier, dating to December 12, 1919 in which Descamps indicates as Carpentier's representative he is formerly challenging Dempsey to meet Carpentier on a date and at a venue to be determined. He indicates they have posted a challenge sum with Mr. Victor Breyer, the Director of L'Echo des Sports in Paris. He has boldly signed the letter in ink as manager of Georges Carpentier, Champion of Europe.

FULL DESCRIPTION: This is a one page, typed letter on L'Echo des Sports letterhead. Signed in fountain pen ink. Clean. Bold type. Some minor edge and corner wear. Not creased. In French. This is a historic document linked to one of the most famous fights in boxing history. The two fought on July 2, 1921 in boxings first million dollar gate. 8 1/4" x 10 3/4."
