On December 17, 1923 at Madison Square Garden in New York world junior lightweight champion Jack Bernstein defended his title against Johnny Dundee. After 15 rounds Dundee was awarded a controversial split decision and the title. New York Times scored this fight 10 rounds for Bernstein, three for Dundee and two even--The Newark Star-Eagle also felt that this was the type of decision that would ruin boxing. Referee voted for Bernstein while the two judges voted for Dundee. Offered here is an original wire photo depicting the two fighters weighing in on the day of the fight.
