HISTORY: On March 4, 1968 "Smokin" Joe Frazier fought Buster Mathis at Madison Square Garden for the vacant New York Heavyweight Title. Mathis had defeated Frazier in the amateurs, but on this night it was all Frazier. Mathis was stopped in the eleventh round and Frazier was declared champion by a state that had stripped Muhammad Ali of his title for refusing military service. In the co-feature World Middleweight Champion Emile Griffith lost a 15 round decision and his title to Nino Benvenuti. Presented here is an original, closed circuit poster for this event.
