FUGAZY, HUMBERT "JACK" BOXING PROMOTER CARTOON ART BY TED CARROLL

HISTORY: Humbert Fugazy was a fight pro­moter in the nineteen‐twenties who made a “comeback” years ago when he helped to promote the second and third Floyd Patterson‐Ingemar Jo­hansson heavyweight champion­ship fights. In his colorful career, Jack Fugazy had been a boxer, prize­fight promoter, grand‐opera im­presario, banker and travel agency executive. However, it was as a boxing promoter that he gained his greatest fame. On July 2, 1925, Mr. Fugazy staged what fight buffs have called the finest fight card in the history of box­ing here. The card at the Polo Grounds drew about 50,000 fans, and, in the principal bout, matched the middleweight champion, Harry Greb, against Mickey Walker, the welter­weight titleholder.
