HISTORY: Larry Gains was a Canadian born heavyweight of note during the first part of the 20th century. Born in Toronto on December 12, 1901 Gains started his professional career on June 23, 1923. Never a champion, but he did well against some who were knocking out Max Schmeling and winning a decision over Primo Carnera. He also defeated George Cook, George Godfrey and Jack Renault and fought a draw with Mike McTigue. Gains died on July 26, 1983. Offered here is an original wire which depicts Larry Gains as he appeared on January 28, 1929 after he defeated Charlie Belanger.
