GALENTO, TONY-MIKE JACOBS WIRE PHOTO (1939-SIGNING CONTRACT FOR LOUIS FIGHT)

On June 28, 1939 World Heavyweight Champion Joe Louis defended his title against Tony Galento at Yankee Stadium in New York. Galento, a hard punching rough and tumble sort, knocked Louis down early in the fight. Louis recovered and administered a ferocious beating on "Two Ton" Tony before stopping him in the fourth round. Offered here is an original wire photo dated March 6, 1939 depicting Galento signing the contract for this fight as promoter Mike Jacobs and Galento's trainer Yussel Jacobs look on.
