HISTORY: On April 18, 1998 at the Nynex Arena in Manchester, United Kingdom WBO featherweight champion Prince Naseem Vasquez defended his title against WBA featherweight champion Wilfredo Vasquez in a main event title unification bout. Hamed stopped Vasquez in the 7th round. Vasquez was stripped of his WBA title for defending against Hamed. However, after the fight, Hamed was awarded the title by the WBA. Wilfredo Vazquez down once in the 3rd & 6th, down twice in the 7th. At the time of the stoppage Hamed was ahead by scores of 59-53, 58-54 and 58-55.
