JOHNSON, JACK & JIM JEFFRIES FIGHT FILM POSTER (PRE FIGHT-1910)

JoSportsInc

Regular price $4,000.00

On July 4, 1910 Jack Johnson successfully defended his heavyweight title against Jim Jeffries, the former champion. Jeffries had retired undefeated champion after his last fight in 1904. Encouraged greatly by a racist public eager to get rid of Jack Johnson, Jeffries agreed to fight Johnson, but age and an almost six year lay-off, coupled with Johnson's great skill and youth proved to be too much. Jeffries was easily defeated in a one sided match. Presented here is an original fight film poster advertising the viewing of films of Jack Johnson and Jim Jeffries at the Wonderland Theater in Massena, New York on April 15, 1910. This show was held three months before the historic Johnson-Jeffries fight and was advertised as "giving you the only chance to compare the style of fighting between JEFFRIES and JOHNSON before their battle for the World Championship."
This is an original, paper poster which pictures both Jack Johnson and Jim Jeffries. Professionally linen backed. Bold color and print. Bold, clear images. Some restoration on edges not affecting the pictures or text. Minor spotting at bottom. Not creased or torn. Extremely rare. 7 1/2" x 19 1/2."
