Benny Leonard was born on April 7, 1896 in New York City, New York. He won the World Lightweight Title on May 28, 1917 from Freddie Welsh. He retired after losing to Jimmy McLarnin on October 7, 1932 with a final record of 180-21-6 with 6 no decisions and 69 KO's. Presented here is a 1920's boxing exerciser endorsed by Benny Leonard which he has signed on the original box.
This is a chest pull exerciser which was made by Moosehead-Whitely Company of New York and sold to the public in the 1920's. The pulley shows evidence of heavy use. It also has several repairs. It is in the original box which has a photograph of Benny Leonard on the cover which includes his endorsement of the product. He has signed the cover in pencil with the inscription, "Best Wishes Eddie Benny Leonard." The box which is extremely rare shows heavy wear and has tape repairs.
