Johnny Loftus was a renowned early 20th-century boxing trainer from Philadelphia. His birth year was circa 1875, his death year is uncertain. Among those he worked with were world champions Abe Attell, Young Corbett II, George Dixon, Danny Dougherty, George Gardner, Jack Johnson, Stanley Ketchel, Kid McCoy, Terry McGovern, Frankie Neil and Battling Nelson. He worked with other noted fighters such as Bobby Barrett, Al Ettore, Frankie Conway, Leach Cross, Willie Fitzgerald, Jimmy Gardner (younger brother of George), Eddie Hanlon, Leo Houck, Al Kaufman, Tommy Langdon, Hughey McGovern (younger brother of Terry), Tommy O'Keefe, Sam Robideau and Unk Russell. He also managed 1930s Philadelphia bantamweight Jimmy Mack. Offered here are two real photo postcards of Johnny Loftus with his favorite dog "Jerry The Greek."
These are a pair of real photo postcards. The one of Loftus has the AZO stamp on back. The one of the dog is by the notable Sommer Studio of Philadelphia. Clean front and back. Not creased. Both have edge and cornaer wera. Bold, clear images. 3 1/2" x 5 1/2" each.
