LOUIS, JOE-BABE RUTH-RED GRANGE CHAMPIONS CLOCK

JO Sports, Inc.

Regular price $750.00

HISTORY: This decorative mantle clock pays homage to some of the greatest athletes from the first half of the twentieth century. While none of the sports figures are identified by name, the image of Joe Louis is unmistakable (his opponent is most likely Max Schmelling), as is that of Babe Ruth and Red Grange. Referee stands at top center. Many believe the woman tennis player to be Helen Wills, and the woman golfer to be Babe Didrikson. The two figures to the far left and right are more ambiguous and may simply represent generic summer and winter athletes. The word "Champions" is engraved along the base. Manufactured by the United Clock Company of Brooklyn, New York, as noted by the lettering on the face of the clock.
