On April 17, 1939 at Wrigley Field in Los Angeles heavyweight champion Joe Louis defended his title against Jack Roper in front of approximately 25,000 fans. Louis unleashed a savage attack against Roper and knocked him out at 2:20 of the very first round. Offered here is an original wire photo depicting the end of the fight.
