HISTORY: Joe Louis was born on May 13, 1914 in Lafayette, Alabama. On June 22, 1937 he won the World Heavyweight Title from James J. Braddock. He retired after losing to Rocky Marciano on October 26, 1951. His final record was 63-3. Joe Louis was also an important figure during World War II serving in the Army and performing numerous exhibitions to raise money for the war effort. Offered here is a first day cover which has been boldly signed by Joe Louis and dated in 1951 while he was still an active fighter.

FULL DESCRIPTION: This is a used first day cover. Signed on the front, "Joe Louis 5/28/51." . Bold ink signature. Date stamped May 31, 1951 from Pompton Lakes where Louis trained. Clean front and back. Not creased, but some compressions from handling. Slight toning from aging. 3 1/2" x 6 3/8."
