On May 16, 1955 World Heavyweight Champion, Rocky Marciano, defended his title against Don Cockell in San Francisco. Marciano battered Cockell from start to finish en route to a stoppage in the 9th round. Presented here are the boxing shoes used by Rocky Marciano while he trained for this fight in Calistoga, California. Shoes come with a letter of authenticity from the brother of Rocky Marciano, Peter Marciano.
These are original black leather boxing shoes. The right shoe still has the original black laces. The left shoe does not. Heavy wear is evident with holes in the back seam and inside ankle area of the right shoe. Approximate ankle height. No manufacturer's label and no size listed, but these shoes are identical in size to training shoes from 1949 accessed from his sparring partner and to his fight shoes in the Brockton Historical Society Museum. Letter of authenticity from Peter Marciano which states in part, "shoes were worn at his Calistoga CA training grounds (which was where he trained for Cockell)."
