HISTORY: On December 13, 1943 at the Civic Auditorium in San Francisco California State Middleweight champion Lloyd Marshall defended his title against Jack Chase. Chase won a unanimous 15 round decision and the title.
"Jack Chase of Los Angeles today had wiped out any doubts as to his rights to the California middleweight championship title. In a 15 round fight here last night he won a decision over Lloyd Marshall of Sacramento, with whom he had fought a draw last November. The titleholder held the advantage all through the fight except when Marshall stunned Chase momentarily in the 3rd with a straight right to the chin, and again when Marshall let go a barrage of wallops in the 10th. Marshall appeared to be playing a cautious game throughout most of the bout. He made a last minute attempt in the 11th when he came out to mix it hot and heavy with the champion. In the 12th Marshall landed a hard right and left to the chin but failed to follow it up. Chase bloodied Marshall's features in the 13th, used him as a target in the 14th and gave him a thorough working over in the 15th." -United Press
Both UP and AP reports only attributed rounds 3 and 10 to Marshall.
