Terry Martin was a welterweight and middleweight contender who fought from 1903-1924. Norn in Norway on November 14, 1884 as Martin Martinson, he came to the United States and fought under the name Terry Martin, for the most part out of Philadelphia. He amassed a record of 47-25-23. Martin fought numerous stars of the time including Harry Greb, Honey Mellody, Harry Lewis, Sailor Burke, Kid Williams, Willie Lewis, Billy Papke and Jack Blacburn. Martin died on October 14, 1918 at the age of 33. Offered here is an original, first generation, mounted, antique photograph which has been signed on the reverse by Terry Martin.
This is an original, first generation, mounted, antique photo picturing Martin in full fight pose as he looked at the height of his career. Photographer stamp at lower right cormer of mount for Sommer of Philadelphia. Signed on the reverse in ink, "Compliments of Terry Martin 1516 S. 20th St. Philadelphia Pa." Date stamp on back, May 7, 1906. His name and year 1906 neatly written on photo at bottom. Bold, clear image. Compression at top center. Corner wear. Clean without staining. 5" x 7 1/4." Exceptionally rare.
