HISTORY: Terry McGovern was born on March 9, 1880 in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. He fought as a featherweight during the 1890's and early 1900's. During his career he fought Battling Nelson, Jimmy Britt, and Joe Gans among others. On September 12, 1899 he stopped Pedlar Palmer in the 1st round to win the World Bantamweight Title. On January 9, 1900 he stopped the great George Dixon in 8 rounds to win the World Featherweight Title. Presented here is an extremely rare fight used glove of Terry McGovern. This glove came from the collection of Ring Magazine. The paint on the backhand of the glove was applied by Stanley Weston of The Ring. Includes of photo of the glove on display in the old Ring Museum (it is third glove from the left).

FULL DESCRIPTION: This is an actual, right hand, brown leather boxing glove. Approximately 4 ounces. This is the size and weight of an actual fight glove, not a training glove. Fight it was used in is not known and is not labeled inside the glove. Grip bar on palm side. No manufacturer's label. Missing laces. Well worn with several small holes, but still perfectly intact. Painted across the backhand, "TERRY McGovern in white leaded paint. Originated from The Ring (Magazine) collection and was sold as part of Stanley Weston's collection, former owner of The Ring. Includes of photo of the glove on display in the old Ring Museum (it is third glove from the left). Extremely rare.
