HISTORY: Carlos Ortiz was born on September 9, 1936 in Ponce, Puerto Rico. Ortiz won the World Lightweight title for the first time on June 12, 1959 stopping Kenny Lane. He won the World Lightweight Title on April 21, 1962 from Joe Brown. He eventually lost the title to Carlos Teo Cruz on June 29, 1968. He retired after losing to Ken Buchanan on September 20, 1972 with a final record of 61-7-1 with 1 no contest and 30 KO's. Presented here is the original New York State boxing license of Carlos Ortiz which he has signed. This license was used for his victory over Kenny Lane on June 12, 1959 at Madison Square Garden in New York in which Carlos Ortiz won the World Lightweight title.
