HISTORY: On June 24, 1947 at the Arena in Cleveland, Ohio welterweight champion Sugar Ray Robinson defended his title against Jimmy Doyle. Robinson stopped Doyle in the 8th round with a stinging left hook at the bell. Doyle could not come out for the 9th round and subsequently died from the injuries he sustained in this bout. Offered here is an original wire photo which depicts Jimmy Doyle being carried from the ring by his trainers after the fight with the distraught trainer of Robinson, George Gainsford, looking on.
