On December 19, 1947 at the Olympia Stadium in Detrit, Michigan welterweight champion Sugar Ray Robinson defended his title against Chuck Taylor in the main event. Robinson stopped Taylor in the 6th round. Taylor reportedly entered the bout with a 23-fight professional record, however this figure was based on his incomplete record in the The Ring Record Book, and he actually had engaged in several more fights than 23. Taylor made an aggressive and plucky fight of it, but he was outclassed. He took a nine-count in round six but arose, only to be put down again and the referee then stopped the fight. Offered here is a photograph of Sugar Ray Robinson in training on December 17, 1947 for this fight.
