HISTORY: On December 9, 1948 at the Jersey City Armory in Jersey City, New Jersey Sugar Ray Robinson and Steve Belloise were scheduled to fight a ten round bout. An injury to Robinson forced a delay until August 24, 1949. Robinson knocked Belloie out in the 7th round.
NEW YORK —( IP)— Sugar Ray Robinson came up with a lump ithe size of a pullet egg between ¦ two of his lower ribs yesterday , causing an indefinite postponement of his scheduled 10-round bout with Steve Belloise tonight at Jersey City . The welterweight champion received the injury in the last round of his final boxing session on Monday , when Tiger Wade , 170-pound sparring partner from Sari Francisco , belted him in the left side . Technically , the injury is a separation between the sixth and seventh ribs . Nothing is broken , but three physicians who examined the Negro fighter said he will have to remain strapped up for at least a month .
