On June 21, 1932 at the Madison Square Garden Bowl in Long Island City, New York Max Schmeling defended his title against the man he originally won it from in 1930, Jack Sharkey. Sharkey won a highly controversial 15 round split decision and the title. Offered here is a scarce original wire photograph of Max Schmeling and Jack Sharkey signing contracts for the fight in New York. Dated January 22, 1932. Along with the fighters notables pictured include Joe Jacobs (Schmeling's Manager), Jimmy Johnston (of Madison Square Garden), and James Farley (Chairman of the Boxing Commission).
