Charles A. "Charley" Scott, a top welterweight contender in the late 1950s and early 1960s lived in North Philadelphia. Charley Scott was ranked number one after knocking out top contender Sugar Hart in Convention hall in 1959. But Scott, who fought three men who held four world championships, never got a title fight. He was a fearless fighter who showed the early promise of becoming a champion, but cruel twists of fate, narrow losses and the natural greed of the game conspired to deny him a shot at the top. His record was 34 wins and 31 losses, 18 of his victories by knockouts. But the stats don't do justice to the Philadelphia fighter from Champs Gym who suffered most of his defeats by hanging on several years after his skills - including a devastating left hook - had left him. In his last fight in Oakland in October 1966 he was knocked out by Jimmy Lester. Charley Scott passed away in 1994 at the age of 58. Offered here is an album page which has been boldly signed by Charley Scott.
