HISTORY: Mannie Seamon, a native of New York, began his training career at the age of 15, as an apprentice. He received his license from New York State five years later, and then spent eight years training Leonard, then lightweight champion. In 1937, he was appointed assistant to Jack Blackburn, who was Joe Louis's trainer. When Blackburn died in 1942, the heavyweight champion selected Mannie Seamon to replace him, and Seamon remained in that post until 1951. He passed away in 1983.
