Abe Simon was born in Richmond Hill, New York. He began his professional boxing career on March 11, 1935 stopping Jim Dowling in two rounds. A big man at 6'4" and over 250 pounds Simon established himself as an important figure in the heavyweight division during the late 1930's and early 1940's. He twice challenged World Heavyweight Champion Joe Louis, but was stopped by Louis in one and disqualified in the other. Presented here is a vintage signed promotional photograph of Abe Simon.
This is an 8" x 10" promotional photograph depicting Simon in full fight pose. His trunks proudly display the Star Of David saluting his Jewish-American heritage. In bold black ink on light portion of photo he has inscribed and signed, "12/23/49 To: Joe DeBartolo with Best Wishes-Keep Punching Abe Simon." In fine condition. Great image. No creases, rips or tears. A beauty in every way.
