Young Stribling was born on Dec. 26, 1904 in Bainbridge, Georgia. He fought as a heavyweight during the 1920's and early 1930's. His first fight was on January 17, 1921. During his career he fought Mike McTigue, Tommy Loughran, Battling Levinsky, Maxie Rosenbloom, Jack Sharkey, Primo Carnera and Max Schmeling. His last fight was on September 22, 1933 a ten round decision over Maxie Rosenbloom. 11 days later "The King Of The Canebrakes" was dead. He died October 3, 1933, after a motorcycle/automobile accident when he was just 28. The accident occurred October 1 outside of Macon, Georgia. Offered here is a real photo postcard of Young Stribling, in fight pose, which he has signed in ink.
This is an original Beagles postcard of Young Stribling in full fight pose. Unused postcard with pencil notation on back. Signed in ink, "Sincerely yours W.L. Stribling, Jr. July 18-30." Signature and inscription are light. Bold, clear image. Clean front and back. Not creased or torn. Minor corner wear. 3 1/2" x 5 1/2."
