HISTORY: Dick Tiger was born in the poor Biafra section of Nigeria on August 14, 1929. He began his professional boxing career in October, 1952 in Lagos, Nigeria. Following victories over Joey Giardello, Florentino Fernandez and Henry Hank, Tiger got a shot at Gene Fullmer and won the WBA Middleweight Title on October 23, 1962 by 15 round decision. He lost the title to Giardello in 1963 only to regain it on October 21, 1965 by outpointing Giardello over 15 rounds. The following year he would move up to light heavyweight and on December 16, 1966 he would outpoint Jose Torres over 15 rounds to win that title. He retired in July, 1971 and died on December 14, 1971 in Nigeria. Presented here is a rare Ted Carroll cartoon artwork of Dick Tiger which has been signed by both Dick Tiger and the artist, Ted Carroll. Dated to 1967.

Signed, "To, Tom and Bill Moore Best Wishes from Dick Tiger," and by the artist, "Drawn Especially For My Good Friends ...Tom and Bill Moore Ted Carroll 1967." Not creased or torn. Tape mark on back from mounting. Minor edge wear. A rare and unique artwork from one of the great cartoon artists of the 20th century signed by both the artist and the subject. 11" x 14."
