Robert Fitzsimmons and Tom Sharkey were two late 19th, early 20th century history heavyweights linked in fistic history. On December 2, 1896 in San Francisco the two met in a highly controversial fight which ended when referee and famous lawman Wyatt Earp intervened and disqualified Fitzsimmons, a move most ringside observers disagreed with. The two fought again almost four years later on August 24, 1900 in Brooklyn and this time Fitzsimmons left no doubt knocking Sharkey out in the 2nd round. Offered here is a circa 1902, original, first generation photograph depicting Robert Fitzsimmons and Tom Sharkey squaring off in a posed shot.
