Regular price $235.00

HISTORY: On March 24, 1962 at Madison Square Garden in New York world welterweight champion Emile Griffith took on an old foe, Benny "Kid" Paret. Griffith dominated for the most part and stopped Paret in the 12th round. Griffith took an 8-count in round six, but was well ahead on points going into the 12th round, in which Paret took "an unmerciful beating" (The Ring, page 7, June 1962 issue), leaving Benny unconscious and in a coma when the fight was stopped. Paret was taken immediately to Roosevelt Hospital, never regaining consciousness before his death there on April 3, 1962. Offered here is an original wire photo which depicts the end of the fight with the referee holding Griffith back from the unconscious Paret.
