HISTORY: On October 16, 1909 at the Mission Street Arena in Colma, California World Heavyweight Champion Jack Johnson defended his title against World Middleweight Champion Stanley Ketchel. Ketchel knocked Johnson down in the 12th round. Johnson arose and flattened Ketchel who was counted out by referee Jack Welch. Offered here is an extremely rare original antique large format photograph of Johnson and Ketchel posing in the ring just before the fight. The photographer was Percy Dana.

FULL DESCRIPTION: This is a first generation, 14" x 18" square-off photograph of Jack Johnson and Stanley Ketchel. From the collection of former owner of The Ring (Magazine) Nat Loubet. No creases, rips or tears. The images are bold. Generally cleaned. Has been matted and framed. Slight discoloration in the sky above the fighters. One light mark near the bottom. One of the finest antque photographs we have had the opportunity to offer for sale.
