HISTORY: Stanley Ketchel, "The Michigan Assassin," began his professional career on May 2, 1904 with a one round knockout of Kid Tracy in Butte, Montana. Ketchel would win the vacant World Middleweight Title on May 9, 1908 stopping Jack "Twin" Sullivan in 20 rounds in Colma, California. Ketchel was stopped in 12 rounds by Jack Johnson on October 16, 1909 in an attempt to win the World Heavyweight Title. Posted career wins over Billy Papke, Hugo Kelly, Philadelphia Jack O'Brien and Joe Thomas. Shot and killed on October 15, 1910 in a dispute over a woman. Presented here is an original, first generation, albumen, large format photograph of Stanley Ketchel seated next to featherweight boxer Johnny Wirth.

Clean with no staining. Not creased or torn. Professionally framed and matted to an oval shape. The name Johnny Wirth is written on his hand ay lower left. This may be his signature, but I can not attest to this. Photo is 14" x 19" in a frame of 21" x 25." One of the finest Ketchel photos we have offered for sale. Rare, and in this size likely unique.
