James J. Corbett was born on September 1, 1866 in San Francisco, California. He won the World Heavyweight Title from John L. Sullivan on September 7, 1892. During his career he fought Charlie Mitchell, Peter Jackson and Robert Fitzsimmons (who he lost the title to in 1987). He retired after losing to Jim Jeffries on August 14, 1903 with a final record of 11-4-2 with 2 no contests and 7 KO's. Corbett was also an accomplished theatre and vaudeville performer. Offered here is an original broadside for James J. Corbett appearing in a theatre in 1893 as world heavyweight champion fighting a three round exhibition with John Donaldson.
This is an original, one page, blank backed, paper broadside. Bold color and print. Has been folded. Minor edge tears and corner wear. 5 1/2" x 8 3/4."
