HISTORY: George "Kid" Lavigne was born in Bay City, Michigan on December 6, 1869. He began his professional boxing career on September 7, 1886 stopping Morris McNally in the first round. On December 14, 1894 he stopped Andy Bowen in the 18th round to win the American lightweight Title. On June 1, 1896 he stopped Dick Burge in the 17th round to win the World Lightweight Title. In other significant fights during his career he defeated Barbados Joe Walcott twice, fought draws with Frank Erne and Young Griffo and defeated Kid McPartland. He retired after losing a 6 round decision to Dick Nelson on Christmas Day, 1909. Offered here is a rare, original, souvenir pin of George "Kid" Lavigne dating to the 1890's.

FULL DESCRIPTION: This is an original, metallic, souvenir pin picturing Lavigne in bust pose. Manufacturer Whitehead and Hoag noted on reverse. Bold, clear image and print. Pin firmly attached to reverse. Not dented or scratched. Clean. 1 1/4" in diameter. Exceedingly rare.
