Sammy Mandell, born Samuel Mandella on February 5, 1904 in Rockford, Illinois. Began his professional career on January 14, 1920. His career spanned over 14 years with his last bout on June 27, 1934. His career record was 147-26-13 and 1 no contest. Mandell won the World Lightweight Title from Rocky Kansas on July 3, 1926. He lost it to Al Singer on July 17, 1930. He posted career victories over Jimmy McLarnin, Tony Canzoneri, Jackie Fields, Sid Terris and Billy Petrolle. Presented here is an original wire photo depicting Mandell playing leap frog at his training camp in Orangeburg, New York.
